History of the Organization

Greenwich Hospital is a 206-bed (32 bassinets) community hospital in the Northeast serving residents of lower Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester, New York. Greenwich Hospital became an affiliate of the Yale New Haven Health System in 1998 and is a major affiliate of the Yale University School of Medicine, a teaching institution with an Internal Medicine residency.

 

Greenwich Hospital opened in 1903 and has evolved into a progressive medical center and teaching institution representing all medical specialties and offering a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic and wellness programs. Greenwich Hospital is recognized throughout the healthcare industry as a leader in service excellence and patient satisfaction.

 

Greenwich Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is licensed by the State of Connecticut to accommodate 174 beds for inpatients, 22 for infants and 10 neonatal intensive care beds.

 

The main campus at 5 Perryridge Road encompasses the Helmsley Building and the Watson Pavilion. Across the street, at 77 Lafayette Place, is the Cohen Pavillion, which houses the Smilow Cancer Hospital, home to the Bendheim Cancer Center and the Breast Center. Greenwich Hospital has an Endoscopy Center at 500 West Putnam Avenue, the Greenwich Fertility Center and the Helmsley Ambulatory Surgery Center.

 

In 2019, Greenwich Hospital received the following Patient Experience awards from Press Ganey: the Guardian of Excellence AwardSM in the Emergency Department (95th percentile for each reporting period in 2019) and the Pinnacle of Excellence AwardSM for Outpatient Services for consistently high levels of excellence over multiple years. It also received the Healthgrades 2019 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for the fifth consecutive year, placing the organization among the top 15 percent of hospitals nationwide for patient experience.
